Privacy Policy
Penguin Devs (“we”, “us”) operates the HydroTracker Android application (“App”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we process, why, and your choices. By using the App, you agree to this policy.
1. Information we do not collect from the microphone
- We do not save audio recordings to your device or our servers.
- We do not upload microphone audio to the cloud.
- While “listening” is on, audio is processed in real time on your phone using an on-device machine-learning model to estimate water usage. Processing stops when you turn listening off.
2. Information stored on your device
The App stores locally (including an encrypted local database) information such as:
- Estimated water usage, sessions, streaks, and daily goals
- Calibration settings, profile preferences, and notification preferences
- Pro entitlement flags and ad frequency counters needed for the free tier
This data remains on your device unless you use optional cloud backup (see below) or delete the App / clear App data.
3. Optional account and cloud backup
If you choose to sign in with Google:
- Firebase Authentication (Google) verifies your identity and provides a user ID.
- Cloud Firestore may store a backup of your usage history and synced preferences linked to your account, so you can restore on a new device.
- We do not store microphone audio in the cloud.
You can delete your account and cloud backup from the App (Privacy or Settings → Account). See delete your data (partial or full without closing Google) or delete your account. Deleting your account removes cloud data tied to your Firebase user and signs you out in the App. Google Play purchases (HydroTracker Pro subscription or lifetime) remain tied to your Google Play account; manage or cancel subscriptions in Google Play.
4. Advertising (free tier)
If you use the free version, the App may show ads served by Google AdMob, including a banner in Insights and occasional full-screen ads when starting listening. AdMob may collect device identifiers, ad interaction data, and similar information according to Google’s Privacy Policy. Pro subscribers do not see in-app ads from this integration.
You can limit ad personalization in your device Google settings or via Google Ads Settings.
5. In-app purchases
Purchases are processed by Google Play Billing. We receive purchase tokens and entitlement status to unlock Pro features; payment details are handled by Google, not us.
6. Notifications and alarms
The App may send local notifications for:
- Foreground “listening” status while the microphone is active
- Daily water budget alerts (optional)
- Shower routine reminders (Pro, optional)
These are generated on your device; we do not use them to collect audio.
7. Permissions
- Microphone — only while you enable listening, for on-device water sound detection.
- Notifications — budget and reminder alerts; foreground service notification while listening.
- Exact alarms (where requested) — optional on-time shower reminders on supported Android versions.
- Internet — sign-in, cloud backup, ads, and billing verification.
8. Third-party services
We rely on services operated by third parties, including:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore)
- Google AdMob (advertising on the free tier)
- Google Play (billing and app distribution)
Each provider processes data under its own privacy terms.
9. Data retention
- On-device data is kept until you delete sessions, reset the App, uninstall, or delete your account (where applicable).
- Cloud backup data is deleted when you use in-app account deletion or when we delete your Firebase user data on request.
10. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided account information.
11. International users
If you use cloud backup or ads, data may be processed in countries where Google and other providers operate servers. Where required by law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data—contact us to exercise those rights.
12. Security
We use industry-standard practices through Google’s services and local encryption for on-device storage. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
13. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post the new version at this URL and update the effective date. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
